Hillsborough 25 years on

I wanted to make a brief comment as we arrive at the 25th anniversary of the Hillsborough tragedy. 25 years ago, I was 16 years old and had one eye on the start of the game. I recall Grandstand cutting to John Motson who was beginning to describe the dreadful events which were unfolding. In the moment, no one could have began to imagine how many would lose their lives that day.
I have watched and listened to former players, bereaved families and the like, and have been touched by their stories. Still, all this time on, Hillsborough remains a dreadful scar on the system of inquests that in our role we encounter every day. Today, our thoughts will be with those who lost friends and family in the tragedy, and all those connected to Liverpool Football Club and the city of Liverpool, and as is only right, will then turn to the inquests which started two weeks ago. Let us hope and pray that this time, they get the truth and nothing but the truth, no matter what.
